The home team registered a straight forward win against a South African side that offered little in the way of resistance. A defensive error by Sithole in the ninth minute allowed Quiñones to lash the ball between the 'keepers legs. Four minutes into the second half Sithole's day got even worse when he was handed a red card and from then on Bafana Bafana were in damage limitation mode. Jiminez doubled Mexico's lead (67') before South Africa had a second player dismissed. Mexico's Montes also saw red after a last-man foul on Mudau but although this was not a game of particular quality, 80,000 Mexican went home happy and noisiiy.

Oh Hyeon-gyu scored the winner (80') striking Hwang's low cross home.

After a toothless first half performance that led to the home team being booed off by their fans at half-time, Mexico took the lead five minutes after the break in a farcical manner. A collision with Lee Gi-hyuk caused goalkeeper Kim Seung-gyu to spill the ball and Luis Romo was on hand to tap it into the undefended goal. Mexico might have had another in the 75th minute but Raul Jimenez's shot from a tight angle was saved while a possible equaliser was prevented by some juggling on the line by the Mexican 'keeper.
The result meant that Mexico are the first team to qualify for the knock out stages and they will play in Mexico in the Round of 32 and the Round of 16 if they get that far.

The Czech's miserable campaign came to a deserved end at the hands of a spirited Mexico team spurred on by their passionate supporters. All the goals came in the second half. Ten minutes after the break Mateo Chávez surged through the inside right channel and finished calmly. Six minutes later Jorge Sánchez broke through and when an attempted clearance struck him as he went down the ball fell to Quiñones who tucked it away. Álvaro Fidalgo made it 3-0 in injury time.

Thapelo Maseko’s strike in the 63rd minute proved to be enough to propel South Africa into the Knock Out stage for the first time in their history. South Korea had the lions' share of possession but struggled to create chances. After the goal they redoubled their efforts but to no avail.
