St James' Park, NewcastleDefences dominated and there were few chances for either team in this match.
Gabon
Switzerland
St James' Park, NewcastleGabon, making their first appearance in the Olympic football tournament fell behind in the fourth minute to a penalty that had to be taken twice. After a nervous start, the African team began to assert itself and equalised on the stroke of half-time. Gabon could have won the match, especially after Switzerland's Oliver Buff was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for diving in the box.
Mexico
Gabon
City of Coventry Stadium, CoventryGiovanni Dos Santos came on as a substitute and scored twice, the second a penalty deep into injury-time, to give Mexico the points. Perhaps wearing their change strip for no apparent reason did the trick.
Republic of Korea
Switzerland
City of Coventry Stadium, CoventrySouth Korea were dominant in the first half and deserved their lead, a goal from Park Chuyoung in the 57th minute. Switzerland hit back immediately, Emeghara equalising three minutes later but the Taeguk Warriors continued to press the attack and were rewarded when Kim Bokyung restored their lead almost immediately.
Mexico
Switzerland
Millennium Stadium, CardiffDespite having the best of the first half, Switzerland conceded the lead mid way through the second. Mexico might have scored more as they counter-attacked swiftly as the Swiss pressed for an equaliser. Mexico finished top of Group B and Switzerland were eliminated.
Republic of Korea
Gabon
Wembley Stadium, LondonSouth Korea did enough to ensure they would go into the quarter-finals although both sides had opportunities to win the game.
