The top two teams from the three groups automatically qualified for the knock-out phase while the remaining two places went to the best third place teams. Brazil were unlucky to be eliminated after finishing with the same points and goal difference as Chinese Taipei but the Asian side went through by virtue of having scored two goals while Brazil managed only one.
